Acne scars: how subcision and PDRN microneedling help
A simple guide by Dr Adriana M. Ozery, Doctor Picasso, Limassol
Acne scars can affect confidence long after the acne itself has gone. The good news is that modern medical treatments can soften them significantly. At Doctor Picasso we combine two treatments that work well together: subcision and PDRN microneedling.
Not all acne scars are the same
Acne scars come in different types. Rolling scars are soft, wave-like depressions. Boxcar scars have sharper edges, and ice-pick scars are narrow and deep. Most people have a mix, so the first step is always a medical assessment of your skin.
Subcision: releasing the scar
Many depressed scars are pulled down by fibrous bands under the skin. In subcision, a fine needle is used to gently release these bands, so the skin can lift back up. The area is numbed first. Afterwards, some swelling and bruising are normal for a few days.
PDRN microneedling: rebuilding the skin
Microneedling creates tiny controlled channels in the skin, which stimulates new collagen. Combined with PDRN (polynucleotides), it also supports skin repair and healing, helping to remodel the scarred area and improve texture.
What results can I expect?
Our Acne Scar Revision Course includes three sessions about four weeks apart. Improvement is gradual, as new collagen keeps forming for months after treatment. Scars usually become shallower and smoother rather than disappearing completely, and some people benefit from further sessions.
Before you start
Active acne should be under control before treating scars. Daily SPF is essential during the course, and Dr Adriana M. Ozery will explain the possible side effects and aftercare at your consultation.
